Programme

The schedule of Summer School will consist of lectures, PhD Students’ papers, and getting acquainted to regional rural circumstances.  1-2 main lectures will be given each day. Plenty of time will be available for informal interactions among the participants. The Summer School kick-off will take place in Mikkeli, in Ruralia Institute, from where bus transportation will be arranged to Hotel Heimari.

Excursions and social programme

Hotel Heimari offers good facilities for the participants, in addition to work, also relax and spend time together. There are opportunities for various activities close to nature: hiking, rowing, paddling, fishing.  The sauna by the lake will be heated every evening.

There will be one full-day excursion to visit local organic farmers and organic food producers, among others. The students will also be acquainted with the activities of a Local Action Group (Leader), and acquaint themselves with the surrounding rural area. Additional program will include an evening trip to the Astuvansalmi rock-paintings, one of the largest examples of rock art ever discovered in Scandinavia. The site is on a tentative list to be nominated to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
